ONGC TO Drill Well in Bihar:

ONGC TO Drill Well in Bihar

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is gearing up to explore Oil and Gas in Bihar they are all set to drill a well. If successful, this could not be only in Bihar but also explore the way for exploration across the entire Ganga basin, extending from Bihar to Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.

According to the director of ONGC, the company has already acquired 3D Seismic data for 300 sq. km for its block in Samastipur and is set to drill two exploratory wells. The first drilling is to be carried out in 2024. The first drilling is scheduled for this year at an estimated cost of ₹30-35 crore.

Data from the first well drilling will guide the company’s plan for the rest of the exploration. The well is to be drilled in Samastipur and the second one is in Ballia. Both blocks were obtained in the fourth open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP) round a few years ago.

Ms. Sushma Rawat, Executive Director-Basin Manager Says:

“This one well will open up the entire basin for future exploration, of which we are very hopeful,” said Rawat. And if Commercial Discovery is made it can change the “Energy scenario and lead to rural area development.

“We don’t require a very big patch (for well). It’s just 130×130 or 150×150 meters of land. It’s a small parcel but still difficult to acquire as over the years, the number of owners (for a land parcel) increased, and convincing every owner is difficult.” said Rawat.

ONGC and other explorers have to directly deal with Landowners to acquire land.
